Railway Colony

Watercolour on paper (11" x 15")

Nice, warm Sunday afternoon and a quite, shady place to sit and paint, what else does one need? Well, one does need the skill to paint, and I guess I am on my way to gaining some. I did this in the railway colony area near Secunderabad station. I am not perfectly happy with the effort. I wish I had handled the sadow side of the house as well as the roof of the distant house better. Figures, as always, arent working the way I wanted them to. Anyways, wa a good learning experience.
All comments and suggestions are welcome.

Nice and fresh.
Excellent composition.
The light and the atmosphere are beautifully captured.
Superb handling of aerial perspective.
The figures add scale and a sense of activity to the painting.
The tiny signboard(?) and its shadow on the wall are amazing.
Loose handling of the foreground draws the viewer to main element in the composition.
And to top it all off, it bears the stamp of the immensely talented Mr. Deshmukh.

Great work. What is most important is the fact that you did it en plein air. I must say that by doing so you have proved that you have taken your skills to a higher level. Keep going.

What a wonderful way to spend the day! I like this painting with it's composition and the colors. You captured the beautiful light of the day - which is not an easy thing to do. It is a lovely "learning experience!" Keep up the good work!!

An artist's curse --having a mental picture that never quite matches the finished painting!! But you should be proud of your works -- really beautiful, and elegantly handled! I have been admiring your blog posts.

Thanks everyone for all the kind comments. Sujit, I believe it was an OFC signboard.

I just found you through Sujit's blog. What are you talking about talent needed to paint?! You have loads of talent. I've been browsing through your blog and think all your work is beautiful. I really like the freshness in this piece, it's great :)
